Is “Winning” Taking You in the Right Direction?

Some believe that there is safety in numbers and to follow the crowd is the right thing to do. But what if the group is mediocre? You might win, but what you will “gain” is more mediocrity. So what do you aspire to? Go find people who aspire to the same things. Then when you “win”, you will achieve things that are meaningful to you and help you express your greatness.

Is Your Learning Leading to Greater Success?

Emerson has said, “Knowing is the measure of the (person.) By how much we know, so much we are.”

True knowing comes when education plus experience leads to wisdom. So, what have you learned lately? Your personal and professional growth and development depends on your persistent commitment to lifelong “education.” A training director, from a large multi-national organization, prescribes at least 2 learning experiences per year – 1 in your field and 1 just for fun.

The Power of a Pause

Are you capable, resourceful, and giving? Do you automatically jump in to assist just about anyone who needs help? This is a terrific thing, unless you act out of a sense of fear, obligation, or to prove that you are valuable. What makes matters worse is the accompanying resentment that can steal your energy, vitality, and joy if you operate that way. So next time your services are “required”, pause for a moment and see if you are really needed. Or, is it time to give someone else the opportunity to help. Perhaps it’s your turn to let others stretch and excel. Doing so doesn’t lessen your value it actually increases it.

The Power of Real Confidence

What happens when you feel insecure? For me, I start comparing myself to others and all of the sudden I get super competitive. This is not a contest to express my own greatness, but more a way to prove that I am “better than” – or at least as good as – them. Yet as I see my ego inflating, I am usually able to pause long enough to realize what’s going on and find “productive” ways to feel more certain and secure within myself. So the next time you feel a teensy bit of self-doubting, how will you build real confidence from the inside out?

Does Your “Mirror” Predict Victory or Defeat?

Have you ever noticed that when you are angry, the world seems to be filled with angry people? They’ll pop up on the expressway, grocery store, or even at home or work. When you are in love, you will likely see others engaged in public displays of affection. Whatever you are feeling, you will draw people and events into your lives that match your feelings. The implications are quite powerful. Up the positive level of your feelings and your life and environment will be a lot happier. So what will you do today?

Warm the Way for Another – Big Benefits!

I love Chicago, even the winters – but it can get really cold. Today is no exception – in some areas, it’s as low as -12 F (without the wind chill.) I live and work close to the Lake Michigan, so it’s a little “warmer.” As soon as I unbundled from all of the layers last night, the phone rang and when I answered it, I heard, “it’s too cold for you to do public transportation. Be ready by 6:45am for a ride. See you tomorrow. Bye.”

Wow. How kind. One little gesture kept me warm this morning and set up my day with an open heart to share good things with others. This may sound incredibly corny (and I suppose it is,) but it made my day.

Today, take a moment and warm up another person’s life with a thank you, phone call, or even a ride. Your good deed will live long beyond the act.

Have a great weekend,
Anita
