The Power of Giving Up

I was chatting with a friend who had a really horrible work experience. He was the revenue driver for a media company and when he questioned the ethical practices of the firm, he was fired. While there are two sides to every story, one thing is crystal clear to me – my friend wanted to move on as quickly as possible. Yet his efforts to find his next job kept getting derailed – and the harder he pushed, the less he accomplished.

My friend is quite brilliant and realized that he needed to give up – not forever, but for a few days. He wasn’t surrendering to defeat, he was taking a step back, giving himself a bit of a pause, and readying himself for a new job campaign.

I am happy to report that my friend landed a great job, doing what he loves, and in an ethical, innovative environment.

While taking a step back can be scary, disconcerting, and unsettling, it can be the absolutely right thing to do.

Have a great day,
Anita
