I was chatting with a friend today who hit a number of speedbumps over the last year. When I asked her how she was able to not just cope but advance, a huge smile came across her face. “It’s not rocket science,” she said. “It’s more about being able to bounce – to be resilient.”
While I didn’t roll my eyes, I did think to myself, “Easy for you to say, but not so for everyone.”
She must of read my mind because she added, “Being resilient isn’t easy. It takes practice and even more, it requires that you hang out with people who are able to see the upside within a situation and encourage you accordingly. These friends pushed me to make the most out of what I faced instead of complaining about it. If anyone wants to be resilient rich, choose your friends and associates wisely.”
When I looked back at my friend, she was beaming. Given how she transformed her career setback into a powerful new job, her approach to resilience is definitely working.
A lesson for us all.
Have a great day,
