What You Want or What’s Left Over?

I was chatting with a friend this week who has been out of work for more than a year and although he has been taking classes to stay current, he confidence has taken a beating. It didn’t help that a close friend of his told him to forget having a career because he was washed up and redundant. With friends like that . . . .

That said, when I asked him what he wanted to do – at first, he couldn’t answer. It was as if what he felt was possible was leftover crumbs. It made me sad, but even more determined to help him see his value.

After a few more minutes, he told me exactly what he wanted to do and we developed a next step – to chat with someone in that job. He may or may not make the move in the end, but he is now stepping up to the full buffet and not automatically settling for the leftovers.

Have a great day,
