Managing Expectations

While we are accustomed to managing expectations with others (at work, school, and beyond), we rarely manage expectations with ourselves. Does this seem odd? Why would we need to manage expectations with ourselves? First, we make more agreements with ourselves than anybody else. Second, we break more agreements with ourselves than anyone else. Third, we feel bad when we don’t do what we commit to – if only in our heads.

So, before saying “yes” to yourself, decide what you can do. Under Promise and Over Deliver can be a good motto to live by when dealing with yourself. The impact can be increased confidence, empowerment, and self-efficacy.

Have a great day,
Anita
