I was having lunch with a friend recently and she told me about how so many people were putting roadblocks in her way. Then she outlined all of the ways people disappointed her and treated her unfairly. After that, she railed on all of the so called experts whose books were a complete waste of time and money. In fact, she knew more than they did and so maybe she should write a book that would actually help people.
Usually, I do most of the talking and yet I couldn’t get a word in at all. It gave me time to listen and reflect. I really wanted to help my friend, but I knew that if I gave her even an excellent suggestion, it wouldn’t work for her.
Why, you may wonder? When I ever get to the point that everyone is wrong except for me, nothing I do moves my goals ahead. What I have learned is that if all the best advice in the world is useless, then I need to look inside and see what I can do to shift my perspective and heart.
This may sound too poofy for some of you. I would only suggest this approach if you are blocked and you are ready to move forward – even one step.
