When the Blocks Are Big

Nice words, stories, and tools are great when a goal is relatively within reach and/or the obstacles are manageable. Yet those same sayings, notes, and encouragement may not work when the challenges feel overwhelming.

A friend from college has been facing something for a long time and when I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago, he would have none of my upbeat ramblings. It just wasn’t working. So, instead, I shut up and listened to him for more than an hour.

By the end, my friend, had exhausted his upset and was ready to consider another way to look at his situation. I am happy to report that although his challenges are still big, his mind has opened up to seeing his situation a bit differently and he may even be open to a bit of encouragement in the not so distant future.

Have a good day,
