Connecting with People You Really Want to Meet

I talk to people a lot about how to make the connection to a company they want to work for or tp a mentor they would like to have. While the general tools, story development and approach are fairly consistent, the outcomes are not. Some individuals have great success, while others not so much.

What makes the difference?

From some research I have been reading, there are three main things – namely rapt attention, care, and gratitude. In practical terms, what does this mean to you and me? It’s actually pretty straightforward: when you are appreciative and give the other person your full focus, share your sense of commitment, and demonstrate the value you gained from the interaction – most of the time, the other person responds in kind.

At its most basic – appreciation begets appreciation and supportive relationships.
