After the Door Closes, What’s Next?

I was chatting with a friend a couple of weeks ago and he had a surprising problem in his career that led to the closing of the business he launched about five years ago.

While such an obstacle can derail anyone, the obstacle wasn’t really the problem – it was the fact that he desperately want to go back to how things had been and which wasn’t possible. Instead of looking for the new door (or window) that could open, he was fixated on the door that had closed. In that way, all of his precious energy was going into something he couldn’t resurrect instead of mobilizing his skills, talents, and strengths into seeing and acting on new possibilities for his future.

After our conversation (where he was able to talk things out,) my friend has a new goal and focus to take even babysteps to make progress. He promised to keep me posted that I will share with you.

Have a great day,
Anita
