Whenever someone wants something, has a question, or needs help solving a problem, my immediate response is to drop what I am doing and jump in. While this can be an admirable trait (or so I have been told), it can wreak havoc in my schedule and stress levels.
Yet, I have come to learn that pausing can be an excellent winning strategy. Just yesterday, a colleague called for help. We arranged to chat early this morning, but something came up for her. When we finally reconnected a short while ago, the looming problem of yesterday has largely been solved.
While this won’t work in every situation, taking a deep breath as a first step can be hugely helpful.
Have a great day,
