What’s Driving Your Life?

It’s a very interesting thing about life. Depending on how we feel, think, and act, your life can be elevated to greater happiness and success or you can drive it to defeat and despair.

So how can you take your life in the direction of where you want to go? Look for your weakest link. What is the one thing that derails you at the point of victory or that makes you want to give up before you even get going? That is your greatest opportunity.

Know that you don’t have to change all at once. Start with one tiny action that is under your control. That’s good as your base that you can build from there.

Banishing the Doubt Demon

Doubt is sneaky, insidious, and relentless. Once it takes hold, doubt can derail your goals, dreams, and plans. It can cause you to question yourself – again and again.

Yet there is hope. Your strengths and memories of when you won over challenges are mightier than doubt. So keep track of each win – big and small – and if doubt dares to try to creep in, pull out your “victories list”, read it out loud, and send doubt packing!

How to Balance Asking for Permission or Forgiveness

I often struggle with whether to go into a new endeavor gaining agreement from those who could be impacted or driving ahead and asking for forgiveness (if I don’t bring them in sooner) after the fact.

While I do my best to collaborate, communicate, and keep people informed, there are times when I catch myself asking for permission to help me reduce my risk, quell my fear, and compensate for a lack of confidence. When I make myself pause, I am able to take a step back, mobilize my courage, and boldly step forward.

So the next time you are faced with the asking for permission or forgiveness dilemma, ask yourself what is motivating you. If it’s coming from an inner lack of something, consider stepping boldly ahead while managing the risk if things don’t turn out as planned.

Is Your Team Leading You to Success or Failure?

It’s a funny thing about the people with whom we “hang out”. They become influencers in our lives.

So a really important question to ask yourself: do you like them, respect them, and want the life and relationships they have?

If yes, wonderful. Keep deepening, expanding, and appreciating those individuals.

If no, decide the life you want and find people who support that direction. Then value, acknowledge, and support them.

Judging Success

It’s a funny thing about another person’s success when you look at it at a specific point in time. You could easily gain a distorted view. Wherever you enter the picture, you could miss where the person started, the challenges he faced, and the courage he used to transform them.

In other words, you might judge instead of celebrating. The former could destroy a relationship before it starts and latter could be the beginning of a life-long friendship.

Have You Reached Your Limit?

You may be thinking: “Yes, I have reached my limit with someone or something that may be bugging me.”

Yet, this is not what I have in mind with this question. My question is about: Have you reached your ultimate capacity in each area of your life? If you are alive and breathing, you have more to contribute to the world. This is true if you are 2 or 100+ or anything in between.

So today, take a tiny action that expands your capacity, confidence, and courage – even a teeny bit. At that point, you have a new limit – really a new starting point for whatever you do next.

Do You Prefer Success or Defeat?

On the surface, this could seem like a silly question. Who wouldn’t prefer success? Yet there are people (myself included at times) who create an environment that doesn’t support victories in one or more areas of life. This can include:

  • Not setting concrete goals or having actions accessible, doable, and repeatable – given the reality of your life.
  • Having the people closest to us bringing out your weakness rather than your strengths.

So, first decide if you want to succeed and if you do, dig down to know why.

From there, set supportive goals, create actions under your control, and develop relationships that benefit you and the other person.

The Power of Cards

Handwritten notes are so old school, retro, and last century. So why do them? Simply: the impact can be extraordinary!

While the people to whom I write really value the tangible form of my thank you, acknowledgement, and/or encouragement, the power comes from how it positively changes two lives – theirs and mine.

So go a little old school and write a note. Make it sincere, specific, and fun. Don’t expect a response, but if you receive one jump up and down with joy.
